Today Peter, Wiltrud, and I explored Cologne (KÖLN). Highlights included: The Roman-Germanic Museum showcasing Roman influences and artifacts found in the city; St. Maria in Capitol, a Norman style church; Lunch with bratwurst, potato salad and Kölsch (a style of beer only made in Köln); the Lindt Chocolate Musuem which was deadly...; a stroll along the Rhine River; and a visit to the famous Cologne Cathedral (Dom). A full but enjoyable day in pleasant autumn weather.
My time with the Ahrens Family in Odendorf has come to and end and I will be traveling to Berlin on Monday. I have really enjoyed the last week here in Odendorf touring the surrounding area. Peter and Wiltrud have been excellent hosts and guides and I can not thank them or repay them enough for their kindness, generosity, and wonderful hospitality. I was spoiled...
As Willie Nelson sang "On the road again..." and Bob Dylan added, "like a drifter without a home, like a dog with out a bone, like a rolling stone...," I am moving on and returning to the life of living out of a backpack and sleeping in hostels and trying to live on the cheap. It's a good thing because I was afraid I was becoming rather domesticated...
I will spend a few day in Berlin before heading to Nuremburg for a couple of days as well before meeting up with some friends near Munich (Munchen) for a visit to the "mecca" of beer drinking and good times, OKTOBERFEST in Munchen!!!
Living day by day and at times, hour by hour... Gotta love it!
Auf Wiedersehen,
NPL

Peter and Wiltrud, Cam and I appreciate the wonderful hospitality you once again extended to our family. Thank you for spoiling Nathan for a week, with your love, generosity, sharing your beautiful home and country, the delicious meals and drinks and being the wonderful friends we have come to know and appreciate. HUGS, Cameron & Lynn
Watch those beer calories! JC
Bring home a cute German or English or Irish or Italian man home with you for me:) It's my only request. Plus it would make Gma happy:) LOL! Have fun.
Oh Jesus, the Oktoberfest... :)
It sounds like everything is falling into place for your outings. Are you planning on meeting up with the American drinking team at beer fest? I mean October fest! I'm looking forward to gun season and the next time I'm going to head to the cabin. The deer stand that I put up in plymouth with my uncle is going to be a good one. I can't wait to see what it looks like when the leaves fall! Stay safe and take care Nato.
